Brightlingsea Fire Station

Brightlingsea Fire Station

Lower Park Road, Brightlingsea ,
A page of information about Brightlingsea Fire Station and images from the past and present. You can also find out about any community events we will be attending in the local area. In the town you will often see the Brightlingsea fire fighters attending fetes, galas and carnivals. It's a great way for us to meet the public and for the public to meet the local fire fighters. Each year we hold an Open Day, often teaming up with the police and ambulance service to make it an all round emergency services open day. Since May 2012 the fire station building in Lower Park Road has been shared with Essex Police. It is a joint community Police and Fire base, with both the fire service and the Brightlingsea Neighbourhood Policing Team working out of the same building. Brightlingsea Fire Station is one of 34 stations across Essex working on the Retained Duty System (RDS). The personnel at the station are professional firefighters who live and work within the local community and are able to respond to a ‘Fire Call’ from work or home within 4 minutes of being alerted to an incident via a personal pocket alerter which will sound in the event of an emergency. All fire calls are received at the fire service control room at Brentwood and the fire fighters alerters are activated by the control room dispatcher as soon as incident details are received. The Retained service operates 24 hours a day for all 365 days of the year. Ongoing training requires attendance at a 2 hour weekly drill night on station plus periodic refresher courses in areas such as breathing apparatus and trauma care. Other training courses are attended in order to gain and also maintain extra skills. Brightlingsea Fire Station is equipped with one Dennis Sabre XL ‘Rescue Pump’ fire appliance which is fully equipped to deal with all types of emergencies ranging from fires to road traffic collisions (RTC’s). The appliance can be viewed here... http://www.ecfrs.co.uk/appliances/dennis/x519wtw.htm The role of the fire and rescue service has changed over recent years, with firefighters working to reduce the number of fires, fire related deaths and injuries through a range of Community Fire Safety initiatives. The Retained firefighters at Brightlingsea play an important role within their local community, by helping to promote fire safety messages, giving fire safety advice to schools and other local organisations. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service does have an on-line incident database which is updated at regular intervals, detailing some of the incidents which are attended by fire crews from across the whole of Essex. This database is open to the public and can be viewed here... http://www.essex-fire.gov.uk/pages/index.asp?area=5&id=46&inc=7151#inc7151.
