Bridport Pantomime Players
We are a local, self-funded Pantomime Group who have been established since 1965 and we gave our first performance in January 1966. Our founder, Bernard Gale, had previously been putting on pantomimes with children taking the roles but decided to form an adult group for the main roles and have the children dancing. Our first pantomime, Dick Whittington, took place on stage in St. Mary's Church House. A larger venue was soon needed and in 1968 Red Riding Hood was performed at the Palace Cinema. In 1999 the Palace was found to have various structural problems and closed. We spent several years performing at Bernard Gales own dancing school premises, The Lyric, before returning to the Palace when it re-opened and where we have remained since 2007. Anybody can join the Bridport Pantomime Players. All you have to do is contact us. Maybe you see yourself on stage as a Fairy, Villain or Dame. Or perhaps you enjoy singing and dancing as part of a group, or you may have a flair for costume making, make-up, prop making, scenery painting, or even hospitality on performance nights. Either way we welcome you and your talents.
