Newry Film Club has been formed in 2007 by a group of volunteer film enthusiasts to bring a wider selection of films from around the world not usually shown by commercial cinemas to the residents of Newry and the surrounding area. The film club was never intended as a money making venture. All of the organisers still work on a voluntary basis (and put some serious hours in, believe me). The main source of finance is the membership subscription. This allows the committee to plan ahead for the season. Any money made on the screenings is ploughed straight back into hiring great films and obtain the expensive Non-Theatrical licence for each film. Newry & Mourne Sub Aqua Club has been going for nearly 40 years and has members from all walks of life, some very experienced divers and others who have only just begun to discover the pleasure and excitement that can be found under the waves! The club was pioneered and funded by local enthusiasts in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Newry & Mourne Sub Aqua Club started with a series of shore dives in and around Carlingford Lough.
