Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant
Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant (YGDS) was the first welsh School to be run by the Education Authority. It is the best Education Authority run School in Llanelli and probably Carmarthenshire. The School has moved 4 times. Zion Chapel School, Old Road, Copperworks and now Pen-y-Gaer and has had 4 different Head's over 64 years. The first Head was Miss. Olwen Williams, the 2nd was Mr. John Williams, the third was Mr. Merion Davies who is still in deep contact with the School and now Mr. Gethin Thomas. The School was opened on March 1st 1947 by Miss Olwen Williams and Miss Inez Thomas who were the first two teachers. The school opened by only 34 children but today there is about 480.
