Clydebank Muay Thai has been around for just over a year now and has been going from strength to strength. In the short lifetime of the club we have accumulated an awesome group of people. The club is run in a very welcoming and laid back atmosphere, allowing you to train as hard as you want to. Muay thai boxing is amazing for losing weight, toning up, improving cardio and conditioning your body due to the vast range of excercises involved. Who We Are We are a group of young workers employed by the NHS in Scotland at The Beardmore Hotel Clydebank. Unlike full time, part time or bank staff in the NHS, unlike every other member of staff at Golden Jubilee National Hospital or The Beardmore Hotel, Food & Beverage Assistants who work on a so called ‘casual’ contract at the Beardmore Hotel are not paid NHS rates of pay. Some of us have been working at the hotel since 2005. We all have at least 2 years service. Our union UNISON have raised tribunal cases on our behalf and in response management have employed 21 new casual staff and have cut our hours of work. The fact is our livelihood are at risk when we have been hard working, loyal members of staff some for over 5 years, who receive the lowest rate of pay in the NHS in Scotland is wrong. Reducing our shifts is at best a cynical move by management and at worst victimisation. Our Case In 2007 casual staff were transferred on to the lowest point of band 1 which was £6.03 an hour. Unfortunately those staff never received a pay rise in line with other NHS staff nor increments so stayed on £6.03 an hour for the next 4 years till November 2010. New start were paid less. From July 2010 UNISON raised the issue of disparity amongst casual staff pay and non NHS pay rates, the rates were very slightly improved taking nearly all the staff up to £6.13 an hour. Currently the lowest point of NHS Scotland Band one is £7.29 per hour. The Scottish Living wage currently stands at £7.15 an hour. The lowest rate of pay in The Beardmore Hotel is £5.45 per hour The highest casual rate in The Beardmore Hotel is £6.28 per hour We can and do earn sometimes 50% less than other staff doing exactly the same job.
