The Taproom Batley

The Taproom Batley

4 Commercial Street, Batley ,
Having just refurbished the old Wilton Arms, on Commercial Street Batley, The Taproom is a real ale bar with a contemporary feel to the venue. Our Taproom is intimate and intense, and sounds fantastic with great acoustics and we are hoping to be put on the map as one of the biggest little venues in Yorkshire. We will be providing a wide range of real ales including Yorkshire’s finest and the occasional guest – including Theakston’s Old Peculiar, Timmy Taylor’s Landlord and Ossett’s Yorkshire Blonde, fine wines from independent growers, a selection of London gins, ciders on tap and in bottle, and Murphy’s stout to top it off nicely. Hoping to be the biggest 'little venue' in Yorkshire, we have free live music most evenings. We have a small stage with a high quality vocal PA and a few lights to set the scene. We appreciate proper music, do not charge on the door, and want to promote real talent, old and new. Being unveiled in the very near future as part of our lounge bar we introduce ‘Barstow’s Snug’; a homage to all that is great about Batley - perfect for business meetings, family functions or small parties. We want to not only be a great place to visit for music and for a few drinks, but we want to be a part of the Batley community. We are open Thursdays from 5pm, Friday evenings from 3pm and all weekend from 12pm, so come and join us for a drink or three and enjoy the atmosphere.

An annual founder's day service is held in his memory at Batley Parish Church, as he requested in his will, although it is not held on the date originally specified. The school (then affectionately known as "BGS") selected boys on their performance in the 11-plus exams, regardless of family background. Following the comprehensivisation of secondary education, the school became independent and entry became restricted to boys whose parents could afford its fees. It was originally a boys' school but introduced girls into the sixth form in 1988 and became co-educational in 1996. More recently, the school has returned to the maintained sector and was one of the first free schools to open in the country.Batley Grammar School is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference.A Junior and Infants school, named Priestley House (after Joseph Priestley, an old Batelian, see below) is set in the grounds and is also part of the Free School.

Batley Barless Fire Co / Firestove

Batley Barless Fire Co / Firestove

401 Bradford Road, Batley ,
Batley Barless Fire Co are a quality retailer of all things wood, solid and multi fuel Firestove.co.uk is a web site of a long established company who deal mainly in the retail sector of solid fuel and gas, spares and appliances. The company have traded under the name of Batley Barless Fire Co. and operated from a converted four storey mill building since being established in 1918. The company name was taken from a type of open fire invented by one of the original owners of the business, which was known as the Barless fire and was produced somewhere in and around the town of Batley. Originally dealing in all aspects of solid fuel fires and appliances, the business expanded into supplying gas appliances as the market developed, and, today can supply almost any type of gas appliance. We have two large, well stocked showrooms with approx 80 solid fuel and gas stoves on display should customers wish to view a selection of appliances and receive product information prior to making a purchase. For customers outside our immediate area, unable to visit the showroom, we have included as many photos and as much product information as possible within the pages of this web site. We try to carry a large selection of stoves in stock to limit the delay between order and delivery, however, with such a wide selection of appliances now available, some units inevitably need to be ordered, in which case we will try to provide realistic delivery timescales. We deal with all the major manufacturers, both British and continental and whilst many are shown on the web site, there are some manufacturers that will not allow us to advertise their products on the internet, so, if the stove you want is not there, why not telephone the number shown to see if we can supply. It may be worth your time to call as our prices are usually very competitive, plus, we can also offer the after sales support of a company long established within the heating industry. Opening hours are 8.30am until 5.00pm weekdays 9.00am until 4.00 pm Saturdays
