Visiting Writers at the University of Stirling
For over 40 years creative writing has thrived as a subject at the University of Stirling, and over the years a range of well-known writers and poets have both visited and worked in Stirling, among them perhaps most notably Norman MacCaig who worked at the university for eight years. At the moment the University is proud to count the Scottish poet Kathleen Jamie and the New Zealand novelist Paula Morris as members of its staff.
Over the years Stirling has made it a point in inviting a number of authors and poets to read their work at the university, and we wish to continue this practice for years to come. This March we will welcome Andrew Greig to the University, and later on this year we will play host to the international poetry conference ‘Poetry and Melancholia’ which will bring poets and academics alike from all over the world to Scotland's Gateway to the Highlands.
Not surprisingly the university was the first in Scotland to offer degree credit for creative writing dissertations, and as from the autumn semester 2011 the English Studies programme will add an MLitt in Creative Writing to its list of groundbreaking post-graduate programmes.
