We first brewed in June 2009 after acquiring the 5 barrel plant from the Isle of Mull Brewery in Tobermory, Mull. The brewing equipment was designed and built for the Isle of Mull Brewing Company in 2005 by George Thompson of Brewing Solutions. They started brewing in May of that year. George was the production manager for the Belhaven Brewery and continues to be involved with the Oban Bay Brewery as our Consultant Brewer. Managing the production of our cask ales is Harry Forbes, who took up this post in July 2010 after previously working for Caledonian MacBrayne. Following a merger of The Isle of Mull Brewing Company with the Oban Bay Brewery in late 2010 a new company, Argyll Breweries Limited, was formed with its main office in Tobermory. Argyll Breweries still trades as Isle of Mull and Oban Bay. Production of the cask ales is currently only at the Oban site, however, it is hoped that production will start again in Tobermory in the near future.

Obanites is going to be a Social Network for the local area. Until that time, we will just have to make do with facebook.

Oban High School is located on the West coast of Scotland and covers one of the largest catchment areas in the country. The current school role is around 1200 pupils.

The Toy Cupboard has twice weekly sessions. On Tuesdays during school term time it is held in the Undercroft at Glencruitten Church Centre, Glencruitten Road, Oban from 1.30pm until 3.30pm and on Fridays all year round in the Main Hall at the Centre from 10am until 12 noon. Annual membership is £3.00 for families and child minders and £10.00 for groups. £1 registration per family per session is now charged to assist with running costs. Tea, coffee, juice and biscuits available - small donation for supplies to be put in tub on tea table. There is a volunteer committee which meets regularly to organise fundraising. New committee members are always welcome.

Whether you're passing through Oban on the way to the Islands, or staying for a couple of days and exploring historic and beautiful Argyll, the original Oban Backpackers is probably the best backpacker accommodation in town!
