Harborough Screen

St Mary's Road, Market Harborough ,
Start getting excited because a cinema is coming to Market Harborough! The town hasn’t had a full time cinema since 1978, and we are looking forward to the opening, which is planned for the end of 2011. Harborough Screen will show a mix of new films and classics right here in the town. So join up, tell your friends to join up as well and, if you own a business or work for a business in town, sponsor a seat. The dream of a screen for the town is getting closer every day and will soon be a reality. A big thanks must go to all of the support of the families and businesses of Harborough and surrounding villages.

Harborough Artists Open Studios & Art Windows

Harborough Artists Open Studios & Art Windows

Now in its 5th year (2013) 'Art Windows', instigated by artist Heather Wharam, is a really successful collaborative event between local artists group, 'The Harborough Artists Cluster' and shops/businesses in Market Harborough town centre. This year's sponsor of Art Windows is 'Croft Wingates' Gallery in Market Harborough. The aim of the event is to promote both the shops and the artists during September which is the time that the artists have their studios and own galleries open to the public. It encourages people to visit artists' studios, to browse their years work, give feedback, have a chat and if they wish to, make a purchase. At the same time it encourages people to visit Market Harborough and delight in our wealth of independent shops and businesses. This years Open Studios Sponsor is' Quinns' Bookshop & Gallery in Market Harborough. During this period 'Quinns' hold an exhibition of our work in their gallery, another opportunity to view our work and decide which artists you would like to visit. The event runs from 1st September to 30th September and participating shops/businesses display in their window a piece of artwork for the whole period, supported by an A4 size poster explaining the event and giving details about the artist in the window. Art work varies in size and a month or so before the event the artist gets together with their allocated shop/business to agree on what would be appropriate. This year (2013) we have been overwhelmed with the support and have 25 participating artists and 29 different locations- some artists will be doing more than one window! We are also doing a prize draw and have some incredible prizes donated by Market Harborough shops/businesses, including vouchers for up to £50 and mystery prizes! There are 10 wonderful prizes in all. The Harborough Artists Cluster promotes this event in its publicity and prints over 4000 booklets, distributing them all over Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. These booklets contain the artists details, where they can be found and which dates during September they will be open. All artists are open during the 'trail weekend' which this year (2013) is the 14th/15th September and many artists are open during the other weekends too. The free booklets also have details of how to enter the prize draw and a map of where to find the artists in Harborough and surrounding villages.
