The Project is currently split into 3 parts. The first is the ship build itself, due to start later this year. The ship is 110 foot long, and will be built using solid English oak, incorporating old and new ship building and woodwork techniques. It will be built by a team of shipwrights and apprentices, who will be trained on site through our Training Centre.
The Training Centre is the second, but equally important part of the Project. Our training Centre will be providing level 2 and 3 Marine Engineering Apprenticeships, and Construction Level 2 and 3 Apprenticeships. We also run NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) intervention training schemes, such as Youth East. Our Marine level 2 apprentices have started for this year under their Tutor Michael Head, and our Construction level 2's under Mick Monks, the Operations Manager and Tutor at the Project.
The third part of the Project is the refurbishment and renovation of the Railway buildings we are working within at the moment. This work is being led by Mick Monks, who joined the Project this year to oversee and work on the buildings. These buildings will become an important learning tool for our construction apprentices, providing them with a good project to work on as they progress through their courses.
