Shrewsbury Lodge is an independent day school for boys and girls aged from 3 to 7 years. We aim to develop the whole child within an environment of academic excellence. High standards of success are achieved through individual attention, provided by highly qualified professionals in a nurturing and caring family atmosphere. We create a secure, purposeful and happy atmosphere where the children learn positive attitudes to work and play, and develop self-confidence and a respect for others.
We welcome children from different faiths and ethnic backgrounds. Together we respect our many differences. Our curriculum sets out to encourage the diverse talents of the children fostering intellectual, physical, cultural moral and spiritual development.
When children leave us, they are equipped for the next stage of their education, having acquired sound work habits and a caring attitude. The development of the whole child is of prime importance to us and the wide curriculum reflects this. We aim to blend traditional teaching with the best modern methods. All children are encouraged to become enthusiastic, independent learners.
Shrewsbury Lodge has extensive facilities including modern purpose-built classrooms, a well-stocked library, a hall, a gym, a heated swimming pool, as well as specialist facilities for ICT, Art, Design and Technology and Music. There is a soft surface playground with climbing frames and a variety of outdoor equipment. The school also owns a large sports field.
The school was founded in 1912 as Milbourne Lodge Junior School, and moved to its present site in 1914. It became a charitable, educational trust, administered by a board of governors, in 1986. In 2009 Milbourne Lodge Junior School merged with Shrewsbury House, a Preparatory School for boys in nearby Surbiton, and was renamed Shrewsbury Lodge.
