Save our garden centre
Fourboys Garden Centre, Dursley road,
Dursley
,
The garden centre is situated on the Dursley road and was formerly known as Windways Garden Centre. After years of renovation work it was opened on March 25th this year, but is now being forced to close because of the actions of the SDC. Due to the location of the site, the SDC planning enforcement team made regular visits during the renovation process to examine the progress and ensure compliance with planning regulations. Despite co-operating with the planning enforcement team on every occasion, they are now demanding that the machine and tool store is demolished, which would render the business unsustainable.
On every occasion any issues were dealt with and we always worked with the council to resolve their concerns. In 2007 we were given permission for resitting our poly tunnels and erecting of a new machine and tool store. The day the metal frame of the tool shed was erected SDC enforcement team arrived on site to discuss their concerns about the height. At this time no action was taken, even though alterations could have been made with little or no cost. Over 2 years later an alleged allegation of residential use of the building resulted in a raid of 5 council officers, 2 police officers and a TV crew. After the allegations of residential use were resolved, the council changed their attention back to the original issue, the height of the building. This is now the only reason they object to the building, and despite originally giving planning permission they now want it fully demolished. This action will close the garden centre. We need your help to prove to the council that this extreme measure isn’t warranted and that there is support for the building in its current state. We very much appreciate you taking the time to read this and we hope you give us your support.
