Southend was awarded Fairtrade Borough status by the Fairtrade Foundation in October 2010. The campaign to achieve and sustain this is backed by local volunteers, organisations and the borough Council. What does this status mean? Well, much more than just a shiny plaque on the Civic Centre wall - we have the joy of knowing that people in Southend have the information they need to choose whether to buy Fairtrade products, and the opportunity to buy them in local shops, cafes, schools and restaurants. The net result of that - is more people making a decent living in the developing world!

Southend Film Club was set up by Jack Sweetenham back in 2009 with the name of Legomate, we then got a grant of £300 from O2 to run a new club in 2010 which we called Saturday Film Club. Now we have been give a massive £2500 for the club we are running it on a Saturday for as long as possible and now called it Southend Film Club. Southend in Bloom is a local free to enter competition organised by volunteers in conjunction with Southend Borough Council

The Southend Bach Choir is a happy and friendly group of people singing a wide range of music. We meet on Tuesday evenings in the school term at Blenheim Primary School, Blenheim Chase, Leigh-on-Sea, for rehearsals. The choir is approximately 65 strong and welcomes new members of both sexes of every age. Musical beginners will be very welcome. We give two major concerts each year, plus an Open Evening in the summer and a carol concert at Christmas.

London Southend Airport Charity Committee has been set up by a team of volunteers that work at the airport. At present it has 14 members: Eileen O'Connor, Amy Such, Matt Croarkin, Leanne Dubovie, Claire Brazington, Rebecca Dudley, Mark Martin, Les Sherrard, Naomi Scholtka, Matt Hart, Carl Sucking, Maggie Petrie, John and Anita We have raised money by holding: -Raffles -Race nights -Quiz nights -Sport days We have spent the money we have raised on: -Runway our Guide Dog - We have spent £5000 training him -Building and maintaining a garden in Southend Hospital cancer ward : Elizabeth Lowry ward so that patients and families can enjoy some fresh air in peaceful surroundings. -Helping the Samaritans -Solar panel's for Milton community church -HARP - homeless centre - provided sleeping bags, food and tolietries -Turning Tides (children in need) children's group - providing musical instruments -Cluny Square Christmas dinner for the elderly Please Like, share and support our page We hope to see you at the next event....
