Kerbs Skateboard Association Penzance

Kerbs Skateboard Association Penzance

Wherrytown, Penzance ,
We are pleased to see how much the ramp on the seafront is loved. We agree the ramp is an icon but unfortunately it is no longer financially viable or practical to keep the ramp in the skatepark. The ramp has been closed on health and safety grounds by ROSPA, a health and safety body, as the structure has rotted substantially and is unsafe. It also requires further work to bring the railings up to health and safety standards. The ramp and skatepark have been maintained by volunteers for many years. The new facility will be made of concrete as it will need to be as cost effective and low maintenance as possible. The new facility will be open to all - whether bikers, skaters, scooters or otherwise. We wish to encourage everyone to use the park across all ages and of all abilities.

Penzance Seafront Forum

Penzance Seafront Forum

Penwith Community Development Trust, The Penwith Centre, Parade Street , Penzance ,
It is the sea that gives Penzance it’s identity but for too long the seafront and harbour, with its unique collection of buildings and marine structures, has been neglected. This has been damaging to the wellbeing of the Town and represents an enormous missed opportunity. The seafront clearly has an important role to play in the social and commercial life of the Town but there has been no agreement about what that role should be and how conflicting interests are managed. Investment is desperately needed but the Town has often been divided about what form it should take. In the absence of consensus the Town has been unable to speak with one voice and therefore has had limited influence over decisions affecting the harbour and seafront. This was graphically illustrated during the controversy over the Isles of Scilly Ferry Link Project. The Penzance Seafront Forum is an initiative to help the community reach consensus over the future of seafront so that it can speak with one voice and have more influence. It seeks to encourage informed debate and local participation to generate a plan of what the community wants to see in the future and how it should respond to development proposals. Whilst the Forum cannot prevent differences of opinion, it seeks to ensure they are recognized early before a lot of time and money is wasted on a project likely to fail. The Penzance Convention

The Penzance Convention

The Exchange, Penzance ,
The Penzance Convention is a three-day conference in expanded form. It will develop the interdisciplinary approach that was exemplified through field trips for The Falmouth Convention in 2010 and is conceived as an international meeting of artists, curators, writers, scientists, historians, philosophers and experts from other fields. The Penzance Convention will reflect on the theme of extraction, with reference both to Cornwall’s extractive industries – mining and fishing in particular – and to the processes by which artists draw meaning from history and site. Social historian Iain Boal will give the keynote, comparing Cornwall and the northern California littoral as zones of extraction. The Penzance Convention is convened by Teresa Gleadowe and Hadrian Pigott and produced by Phil Rushworth and Bettina Wenzel in partnership with Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange, Penzance. It is funded by Arts Council England South West, Outset Contemporary Art Fund and LUMA Foundation.
