There are loads of other free Surestart groups for older children and also baby massage (which you need to book with the centre), and there's also a Surestart hub in Holme upon Spalding Moor. Surestart groups and swimming are normally term-time only. There's more info available on local activities and support for other areas like childcare and special educational needs advice from FISH (Families Information Service Hub), you can give them a call on 01482 396469. Also just thought I'd add that I've heard Blue Sky soft play cafe in Market Weighton is a good place to go for coffee/lunch with baby friends, and has a separate baby play area away from the older tots. Not quite in Market Weighton, but if you don't mind going a bit further afield there is a Beverley Netmums group you can join online (http://www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/groups/east-riding-beverley.html) and through them I have been to a meet-up at Blue Kangaroo play cafe in Cottingham (the monthly meet-up info is usually posted on their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Netmums-Meetups-Beverley-East-Riding/170058316373966?ref=stream) and I also go to Baby Sensory classes on Fridays at the Beverley Arms hotel (http://www.babysensory.com/en/ClassDetails?id=370). There is also Buggyburn in Beverley (meeting in Tesco car park) but this is re-starting in March when the weather perks up.

Markinch District Community Choir

Markinch District Community Choir

The Choir meets on Wednesday evenings in Markinch Parish Church Hall from 7pm to 9pm. The rehearsals are fun and the atmosphere is informal. There is a break about 8 o'clock when tea or coffee is available, giving members the opportunity to mix and get to know each other. There is a wide range of abilities in the choir and plenty of help and support for people who are new to choral singing. It is not necessary to be able to read music. We sing a wide variety of songs from musicals to classic pop, Scottish, West Indian, African and American, as well as seasonal songs at Christmas. We currently have around 40 members and are always keen to welcome new members to join us. If you have an interest in singing in a local community based choir please come along to our rehearsals and join in with what we are doing. No auditions are held and membership is open to anyone over 14 years. We aim to stage two or three concerts each year and will perform with other groups if invited. In 2011 we gave concerts in Markinch Town Hall in June and December and we sang at the Tullis Russell Mills Band Traditional Family Christmas Concert in the Rothes Halls. In 2012 we participated in the Queen's Jubilee concerts in May and held our own concert in June. Our Christmas concert is in rehearsal at the moment and we will be singing again with the Tullis Russell Band
