• The NCT (formerly known as the National Childbirth Trust) is a charity for parents and parents-to-be which is open to everyone.
• We exist to make the transition into parenthood as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
• We offer a wide range of support in pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood, information and opportunities to meet other local parents.
• We aim to give every parent the chance to make informed choices.
• We want to offer you the services you most need, backed up by the national resources of the NCT. If there is something you feel we should be offering you, let us know.
You don’t need to be a member to benefit from any of the NCT’s services, or to join in our social activities – we are here for all parents and parents to be. However, as a self-funding charity, we depend on the generosity of our members and supporters to continue our valuable work. Membership fees and donations allow us to keep our services accessible to all parents within our local community. You can join us by phone on 0844 243 7000 or online at http://www.nct.org.uk/get-involved/become-nct-member
All members receive regular newsletters and magazines, and are invited to join our friendly, informal committee. We offer many opportunities to contribute to our local work, whether you have a few minutes or a few hours to spare. Many parents find this a valuable and enjoyable way to keep their minds active during maternity leave!
Antenatal and Postnatal Courses
Our antenatal and postnatal courses are led by locally-based NCT-trained specialist workers. Antenatal classes offer informative support as you prepare for the birth. They aim to give parents an understanding of what happens in childbirth, reducing anxiety and providing the opportunity to look forward to the birth with confidence. Most importantly, the classes give you the opportunity to meet other parents due to give birth around the same time as you.
Our Early Days Postnatal courses are designed to help you feel confident about the decisions and choices that you make for you and your baby. You will be able to share ideas and experiences and help others to do the same and in this way support each other as you learn more about your skills as parents. Attending an Early Days course will help you find your feet as a mother and give you the confidence to parent your baby in the way that you feel is right for you and your family.
Discounted rates available for those on low incomes. Book early to avoid disappointment! To book a place on Antenatal and/or Postnatal courses email bookings4m@nct.org.uk or call 0844 243 6916 for details and availability. A full listing of courses available can be found on http://www.nct.org.uk/branches/dorking/courses
Bumps and Babies
This is a twice monthly get-together for mums with bumps and parents or carers of non-mobile babies. It is held at Burgundy & Black, St Martins Walk, Dorking on the first and third Fridays of the month from 2 - 4pm. Although these monthly sessions are targeted at mums with bumps and non-mobile babies, older siblings are welcome too. It is a chance to meet others for a chat and enjoy a hot cup of tea. There will be books and other resources available to borrow or buy. For more details visit our website at http://www.nct.org.uk/branches/dorking/events/bumps-and-babies
