Dorking Camerata
Dorking Camerata started singing in Neil Cathmoir’s house in 1997. After Neil left Dorking in 2002, we were fortunate that Chris Dawes was happy to take us on to new horizons. Since Chris left in 2007 to take up a full-time teaching post we have had the privilege of being directed by guest conductors Justin Doyle, Philip White, Joe Fort, Andy Phillips, Andy Arthur, Aidan Oliver, Ian Assersohn (with whom we made a CD in May 2011), William Whitehead, Eamonn Dougan and Piers Maxim.
Then, at our concert in October 2011, we were delighted to announce that we had decided to appoint Justin Doyle to be our regular conductor. He plans to appoint a guest conductor for one concert each year and conduct the other two himself, so we have the stability of a regular conductor without losing the advantage of input from a guest.
As the choir has developed its repertoire and performs a range of music to enchant a growing audience, the Camerata never loses sight of its founding principle; the sheer delight and pleasure of singing.
