Dunbar United F.C.

Dunbar United F.C.

They play in a black & white home strip, and a blue away strip, and the team nickname is "The Seasiders". They play at the 2500 capacity New Countess Park, part of the Hallhill Centre, that they share with many of the town's sports clubs, including the Dunbar Colts, and Dunbar Rugby Club. Their home matches are amongst the best attended in their league, especially against their local derby rivals Haddington and Tranent Juniors. Although Dunbar United formed officially in 1925, their history can be traced back as far as 1880, when a team called Dunbar FC played Aberlady in a friendly. Over the intervening years, a number of Dunbar clubs were formed and disappeared almost as quickly, with fabulous names like Dunbar Bluebell, Dunbar Thistle, Dunbar Britannia, Dunbar Castle, Dunbar Star and Dunbar Comrades. All of these threads came together in 1924 when a juvenile club called Dunbar United were formed, but a year later their committee decided that they were ready fot the step up to Junior football, and they joined the Berwickshire Junior League. Since then, this great club from the lovely seaside town of Dunbar in East Lothian, just 28 miles to the east of Edinburgh, has won the Edinburgh & District League twice, the East Region Division Two three times and the East Region Cup another three times. But their biggest honour came when they won the prestigious and hard-to-win Scottish Junior Cup in 1961.

DRIVE - Dundee University Formula Student

DRIVE, University of Dundee, Mechanical Engineering, Dundee ,
We compete in the annual Formula Student competition at Silverstone. A handful of students design and build a new car each year. The competition ranges from small teams to teams with 6 and 7 figure budgets with over 50 members. The competition sees over 100 teams, with around 25 different nationalities. Formula Student (FS) is a breeding ground for world class engineers. It challenges university students from around the world to design and build a single-seat racing car, which is then put to the test at the famous Silverstone Circuit. Its key aims are to inspire the next generation and address the skills shortage in engineering. The way FS achieves this is by providing crucial practical experience and transferable skills for use in a diverse range of industries.

Dundee University Ultimate Club

Dundee University Ultimate Club

Sports Union, DUSA, Airlie Place, Dundee ,
Ultimate is the fastest growing sport in the world. Ultimate is a non-contact sport which can be played both indoors and outdoors. Two teams of 7 players must pass a disc (Frisbee) amongst themselves, working their way up the pitch to score in the end zone, much like American Football. University Ultimate has three divisions; Open (anyone, generally males), Women’s and Mixed. One of the key aspects of the sport is that there are no referees, instead the players self-officiate. The good nature with which this is done is called spirit of the game and is one of the most important principals of the game. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro our club has something to offer you. Most new members to the club have never even heard of the sport, let alone thrown a disc before but we can teach you everything you need to know. As you improve throughout the year you will get the chance to play in a variety of tournaments anywhere from Scotland to further afield. The club itself is one of the best in the UK; consistently attending Division 1 BUCS Nationals in both Outdoors and Indoors. Of course the club also runs an active social calendar, whether it's heading to the sponsor pub after training, beach tournaments, themed nights out or the Christmas party. So if you are interested in learning more about Ultimate, want to try something new or are looking to play for one of the top university teams in the U.K. drop us an email or just come along and join us at any training session. See you soon!
