And children's centres play a fundamental part in that. We run over 120 throughout rural, urban and inner-city England, helping over 90,000 children and families get the early support they need.

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners aged from 16 years upwards and ability ranging from elite to beginners in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We have been in existence for over 40 years. We exist primarily to encourage running at any standard, either with a view to competing in races from 5k to marathon, or simply for exercise and fun. We regularly compete in local races and team based events and also take part in competitons on road, cross country and track at County, Area and National level. We have around 100 members, of whom nearly half are women. Our Training - Our main club nights are Tuesday & Thursday. We meet at Folkestone Cricket Pavilion (full address and map below) at 18:30. The main training group usually do an interval session on the Cricket Field. This session is suitable for most abilities. On these Club nights there may be other groups who will do a steady run, either around town or off-road into the hills. On Wednesday evening there is an Aqua-Running group for members, but space is limited so please check first. On Saturday, during the Cross-Country season, we do XC training in a local park. How to Join - To join, just come along to one of our training sessions on a Tuesday or Thursday evening at 6.30pm at the Cheriton Road Sports Ground. Train with us for a couple of weeks and if you want to join, we can take all the required details then or contact us for more info.

M&C Saatchi will be running a crash course in advertising at the Creative Quarter, Folkestone from 9th July to 20th July 2012. They have just started a recruitment campaign for 12 young people aged between 18 to 24, to apply to be given a 2 week introduction to advertising; learning everything from getting to grips with the client brief and coming up with great advertising ideas, to working with photographers, designers and film makers on producing the ads. M&C Saatchi will be offering to tutor and inspire these young people with some of the advertising industry’s leading minds. The project is also being supported by local organisations that work in advertising, marketing and creative production and their project is aiming to give the young people involved an insight into working in a large advertising agency but also into the local job opportunities in the creative sector. This is the first time that a leading London advertising agency has offered work experience to young people in their own community, making it accessible to more people. This project was initiated by MP Damian Collins, and made possible through the participation of M&C Saatchi and other local businesses, as well as the Creative Foundation in Folkestone who have given free use of one of their buildings to house the project.
