A Morris FC
Just who are we, you may very well ask....or even....why such a peculiar name for a football team?
The story started on a muggy Sunday morning at Leyland Park, Hindley in September 2010.
AFC Wigan Reserves were playing host to Digmoor FC in a South Lancs Counties Division 3 encounter when after no more than 20 minutes of the match, all present on that day witnessed a true tragedy.
Adam Morris, goalkeeper for AFC Wigan that day was lining up a goal kick, when he collapsed, never to regain consciousness. And at just 24 years of age.
Shortly after Adam' passing, his team mates organised a fund raising charity football event which raised a quite staggering amount of money for Ethan, Adam' son. AFC were backed fantastically from the great lads at Digmoor FC who contributed massively to the whole event.
In 2011, the South Lancs league renamed the Division Three trophy, The Adam Morris Memorial Trophy in what was a truly fine touch by the committee.
And now, 2012, his team mates attempt to remember him in the best way they can think of. By playing as a team under his name.
Its true to say the former club, AFC Wigan, has had a long standing and successful period within the South Lancs league which dates back to 2004. However, as with anything, a new chapter has now begun.
