I am a Registered childminder in Helensburgh Becci from BPS CHILDMINDING SERVICES- I have an assistant- so we can look after up to 10 children- 6 under 5years old at any one time and 4 more children who are at school ,i have a good friend who is also a childminder and my mum is a childminder too with an assistant- so we all have each other to help out. We regularly meet up when we go out on trips/ special occasions - your child will always have plenty of friends! We live in a lower conversion- i have a large dedicated play room, sleep room , toilet, for the children i care for- the children are allowed obviously to go in all the rooms in the house with me they are all child friendly. We have a large front garden ( we also have a back garden for the dogs). We live close to the beach/ park and woods and 4 of the schools/ nurseries. No pets are allowed in the children s rooms - they have their own rooms and back garden, children are allowed to pet the animals under supervision- we have cats, dogs, rabbit and a tortoise. I have a Hyundai Santa fe 7 seater car- with every age and stage of car seat. I am married, my husband is also on my registration as an assistant so he can help out to when he is at home, we works for the Navy. We obviously love animals- out door activities- both quite easy going. An example of a day in the care of BPS Childminding Services- What becci and staff do and what children do- 5.30ish am Becci gets up- risk assess the house- feeds animals- walks dogs- risk assess garden and drive- Quick sweep in hall ways-put wash on- clean toilet and sinks- may reply to parent texts or emails if not done so night before 6.50ish am First child arrives most days (on a fri not till 7.30) children are welcomed in- could be cuddle time- discussing what we would like for breakfast and to do today in general- chatting about how we were last night- every one eats breakfast between 7am and 8am- gets dressed- teeth brushed- free play children’s choices- Staff tidy and do register- plan daily diary- 8.30ish am Most children are here- start getting children prepared for school and nursery 8.40 – 9.10 am school and nursery runs (hermitage school, jlb and Lomond nursery) 9.10 – 9.55 am out if nice weather on a walk or trip or an activity possibly out longer in hols or if going out of Helensburgh 10 am Snack time usually and drink (drinks are offered every hour to children and children’s nappies checked usual one change every 3 to 4 hours and toilet are offered to children regularly and hand washing before after activities and eating) 10.30 am Arts and crafts at tables or sensory or baking or circle time type of activity 11 am free play children’s choice 11.30 – 12 most days nursery pick ups- prep lunch- story time/ singing 12.10 pm ish every one eats lunch (if no nursery runs could be earlier we eat) 1.15 pm quiet time – Older children do a quiet activity and the younger children that need to sleep have peace to do so (children can sleep at any time of day- in car- in buggy if we out)– becci and staff eat, hoover/ sweep after lunch/ clean kids toilet could clean dirty used toys tables chairs . Becci will reply to emails or calls- finish filling in diary. Prep for tea and afternoon activities. 2.20 pm every one awake- cuddle time-Snack time- 2.50 – 3.15 pm School run- get younger children ready who want to go- ones that stay do activity 3.14 – 3.45pm home work- younger children do free play choice and older children who no home work may do table activity 3.50pm start tea cooking – if not in slow cooker or oven already- children group activity usually a game or physical followed by a story or discussion time 4.25 -5 pm Tea and snacks- becci and staff get bags packed up and start preparing children for home time 4.45 – 6pm most children go home- hand overs given- tidy up play room- kitchen after tea- 6pm onwards Becci or staff general tidying / cleaning floors - feeding animals – dog walk- updates or reply’s to emails- sorting washing- go shop for food- paper work finished off – start other paper works – all tick lists completed. If a child here out of hours they would help me do things or play in a room with their choices – bath and bed usually by 8pm- children usually sleep through here till maybe 7am this is when becci sits down – usually in bed by 9.30pm. At weekend- Becci and staff- general paper work – reading over things- researching updates from care commission- general dusting and cleaning of equipment / floors/ all soft or material things get washed- researching for activities/ equipment - go shops for supplies for the week ahead- scope out places we visit to risk asses- diy to house or garden/ gardening. Possibly have visits from prospective clients after 6pm week nights and any time on weekends. Believe it or not this is a brief version- just to give you an rough idea of what we all get up to. My Experience I have Been to college for 2 years to get my HNC in childcare- back in 2006. I always babysat regularly for people from 2003- I was a part time nanny while i completed my childcare course for 2 years i then went on to work in a nursery- i became room leader within 2 years- i have been a childminder for the last 4 years and its the best job in the world for me! I love running my own business and looking after children encouraging them to learn / grow/ develop is the most rewarding part- seeing and helping them to reach their milestones- introducing them to new and different experiences and having good fun- if children are laughing we laugh too!! a RECOMMENDATION FROM A LOVELY CLIENT- A NAVY REFERRAL TEMP JOB- BPS Childminding is a caring and professional home away from home. Becci is an outstanding childminder, providing a nurturing and secure place with flexible and accommodating hours that was especially needed in my case – 12 hrs/day for over 2 weeks. Her business is run out of her home which is very clean and spacious. The play room has all the learning toys you could possibly want, but even more importantly, lots of time is spent outdoors doing the school run or just going to the park or beach. For my 6 m/o, it was important to me that she had interaction with children of all ages and even in the after hours, Becci’s pet dogs and cats. She has a great support system of assistants and family which means that my little girl was never without attention or a watchful eye. Becci helped with weaning and always had an extra bib or onesie on hand for those days that were extra messy. Knowing that my baby was in Becci’s very capable and loving hands meant I was able to get my work done with little worry. I wish I could have brought her back to London with me.
