It's a madness for Falmouth and blocks a fantastic future for this site as a mixed centre for marine, artists ,musicians and small start up businesses.
Falmouth Town Council rejected planning permission, almost 100 local residents have written letters of objection, 790 petition signatures were collected, and the Environment Agency objects this proposal - YET the Strategic Planning Committee still seem to be seriously considering granting planning permission to build flats and a hotel on Falmouth Wharf.
This is Cornwall's last deep-water all tides access wharf. We've said it before, but turning this site into a mixed use residential development with flats, a hotel and some token light industrial units will spell the death of marine industrial work on what is already a thriving, working wharf.
In 2008, this planning proposal was denied permission and the owners of the site appealed the decision. In the court of appeals, planning was DENIED on the grounds that the site is in a flood plane and the development would be detrimental to local businesses based and and supplying the site.
Instead of working with the marine and creative businesses that use the site, the Strategic Planning Committee, chaired by Mike Varney, have been working closely with the owner's architects to push this development through the planning process.
However, the plans are almost exactly the same as those submitted in 2007 - no new evidence has been submitted that changes the results of the 2008 public enquiry.
To grant planning permission for this proposal, the Strategic Planning Committee will be going against Falmouth Town Council, The Environment Agency and the judicial review. Sounds fishy? We think so... Will you please join us in lobbying the strategic planning committee to demand that they send the proposal to the National Planning Casework Unit for another public investigation.
Lets work together to keep this process transparent & fair
Many thanks,
