The Red Lion North Bitchburn
The Red Lion was originally a farm, then in the late 1700's it became a Drovers Inn and was used by farmers to water and rest themselves and their stock on the journey to Bishop Auckland mart. The restaurant area was used as a barn in those days, and in later days the adjoining barn was used as an abattoir, we have now converted this part of the building into an intimate dining area separate from the main restaurant.
In the seven years since we purchased the Red Lion, we have carried out extensive refurbishments throughout. We have retained as many of the original features as possible to give a warm welcoming feeling when you walk through the door.
Our restaurant serves an extensive menu offering plenty of choice so you will always find something to tempt you. We use fresh locally sourced ingredients and all of our Main Courses are cooked from scratch by Christine our Head Chef who runs our small but dedicated team of kitchen staff. Our Restaurant Manager - another Christine - will take care of you and your party, and will ensure you receive the best possible service from our waiting staff.
In the Bar we have a wide and varied selection of Cask Ales, we have two permanent ales - Timothy Taylors Landlord and Black Sheep Bitter - the remaining four are guest ales which changed on a weekly basis. The guest ales are sourced from micro breweries ranging from the Highlands of Scotland to the south East coast of England. We pride ourselves on a very high standard of cellar management which guarantees you the perfect pint. We also serve a variety of keg beers, draught lager and cider, wines and spirits, and a range of soft drinks.
We pride ourselves in offering a friendly and efficient service to all of our customers and are always prepared to cater to any specific requirements you may have.
