The California Ballroom Facebook page and web site are maintained purely for those who went to the Cali and have fond memories of the place and the people. Neither this page or the web site attract any income, there are no donation buttons and we do not make any money from either. We set the site up to hold our memories and those of people who wished to contribute. We are happy to promote other events that are true to the ethos of the place and have some relevant association to it. We do not charge for this, never have charged for this and will not do so unless the name, which is trademarked under the approval of the last owner, is taken for granted or used for financial gain in a way that is a detriment to the good name of the California. We are currently promoting the Ballroom California event for Olympian Productions. We have provided information to them to ensure that the show is as authentic as possible within the confines of the story and some of the verified Cali DJs have also provided input. Other than that we have no direct involvement with the show or the company. All rumours and comments that we are making a fortune out of the web site are false. Some of the statements seen are bordering on libelous and we are watching those carefully. Everything on the site has been verified from at least two sources and all claims to fame, particularly from the dozens of people who claim to have been DJs, have to be backed up by something in print, newspaper ads or reviews, pay slips, account books etc. If we don't get that, it doesn't go on without a disclaimer attached. Information from the 60s when the ballroom first started has been reviewed and approved by those who were there at the time, including a member of the family and many of the groups. We are not and never have been in this for the money, in fact, it costs us money paying for hosting, domain name renewals and the trademark. The California was a huge part of our teenage years and for us, memories, friendships and experiences are worth more than any cash.
