Two pioneers, that developed new rules and laws for a game to play with friends of all ages in the community. Early both gentlemen saw the power of football to connect people with grace, happiness and respect for one another. Starting with the inventions of 1857, football became a strong social and emotional basement for the citizens of Sheffield - and is today the world's greatest game.
Throughout history, our club Sheffield FC has always played football at amateur level. When the first professional league was founded in 1885, the club wasn’t strong enough to compete with the newly formed and paid pro-teams and so decided to set up the first official amateur competition in football.
Being proud of its status as true amateur club, Sheffield FC has developed a grass roots environment with more than 12 teams – from an under 14 girls’ team to over 35 and Ex Sheffield Players – a place for every football enthusiast, living within the region of Sheffield.
