Retrak
Retrak works with full time street children in Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya. There are numerous reasons why children live and sleep on the streets such as poverty; family strife; abuse; being orphaned, often as a result of HIV/AIDS; war and famine.
Retrak believes a safe family is the prefered environment for a child to grow and develop. They do not belong on the streets or in institutions, such as orphanages and children's homes.
Our vision is to see street children realise their potential and discover their worth. We enable steet children have a real alternative to life on the streets through the resettlement of street children with their own families, foster care and vocational training. We tailor our programmes so that each child is recognised as an individual, with unique needs. We make a long term commitment to support each child that we work with.
Dispite there being over 24 million children living on the streets world wide street children are still invisible. They have no welfare and no funding streams.
We want to change the landscape and attitudes in the public domain so that street children are no longer exploited but are protected from a life of beatings, betrayal and abandonment.
