Mimosa Kitchen & Bar
Backed by Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd, Mimosa’s celebrity credentials are well known. However, this is an establishment that has something to offer beyond the hype. Described by The Sunday Times as ‘this year’s restaurant for Cardiff’ on its opening in 2006, a winner of the prestigious Penderyn Whisky award, nominated on four occasions in The South Wales Echo’s “Best Restaurant†award and featured in The Good Food Guide in 2010 & 2011, Mimosa has obviously not escaped the critics’ attention either.
Located in the heart of Cardiff Bay the interior has a striking contemporary design (using a mixture of wood, leather and slate) and attracts a cosmopolitan mix of diners with its bustling yet relaxed ambience. The restaurant takes its name from the tea-clipper that transported Welsh emigrants to Patagonia, Argentina in 1865 and you’ll find wine from both countries on the list today.
The contemporary menu (which, along with the website, is available in both English and Welsh) uses top quality Welsh produce, all prepared on site and cooked to order, and features traditional favourites such as Cawl, Welsh Black Beef, Cockles & Laver bread, Gower Salt Marsh Lamb, and fresh line caught Fish of the day. There’s also a wide selection of vegetarian dishes and where possible all ingredients will be locally sourced, free-range and Fairtrade with 100% traceability.
Mimosa is highly recommended by both local regulars and visitors from further afield for its excellent food and wines delivered with a first class, bilingual, service.
