Brixham Yacht Club was founded in 1937, with Sir Harold Clayton as the first Commodore, up until 1951. The clubroom was a sail loft, and was converted some years ago into the bar as we know it with it's fabtastic panoramic views over the busy working harbour, the new fish quay development, the breakwater and the beautiful waters and coastlines of Torbay and Lime Bay. The club is now recognised as one of the premier clubs on the South coast of England, as it continues to grow in both membership and stature. The Club is accessible at all times and provides launching facilities at all states of the tide, and due to the new fish quay developments we now have a larger compound for boat storage and outside events. The development has also provided us with 30m of the new fish quay wall for boats and visiting yachtsmen. The Club offers and excellent venue for social and competitive sailing events and continues to host Open Weekend, National, European and World Championship events, both for dinghies and keelboats.

BOADS welcome anyone new to the area or simply interested in joining to get in touch! We love hearing about individuals and their specific skill - and finding out if we can somehow involve them in an up and coming show - so why not get involved? Rehearsing and Performing with BOADS is fun and engaging - and presents a fantastic opportunity to work with some accomplished directors and musicians, actors and vocalists. ''Local legend has it that during 'The Great Gale' of 1866, the lights of the town being dimmed by the inclemency, and fearing for the lives of their sons, husbands, brothers and fathers, the womenfolk gathered and hauled their furniture to the headland and set ablaze in a bonfire to guide the remaining sailing trawlers home to port. Some said the flames were in the shape of an Angel. Such was the destruction of the fishing fleet, and with it 100 lives lost, that after the storm it was said that one could walk across to Paignton on the broken flotsam of trawlers. To this day, on the darkest, stillest nights above the Port of Brixham, amongst the cries of ever circling gulls, there can be heard the flap of the Angels wings that look over the souls of all below.''
