John Bourne (and his late colleague Bob Bushaway) is a founder of the School of First World War Studies at the University of Birmingham, the author of 'Britain and the Great War' and co editor with Professor Gary Sheffield of 'Douglas Haig, War Diaries and Letters 1914 - 1918'. Engineer and scientist Professor Keith Case of the Wolfson School, Loughborough University is a leading expert on the life of Colonel Alexander Weston Jarvis. Dr Wayne Osborne studied under Dr Bourne, Bob Bushaway, Professor Sheffield and Professor Simkins at the University of Birmingham and was supervised by Professor Keith Case at Lougborough University. Dr Osborne is the author of two works in a planned trilogy about the 17th (Northern) Division on the Somme in 1916 and two volumes of a four volume set of books about the 10th Notts & Derbys.
