Stalybridge Town Team

Stalybridge Town Team

@SBTownTeam , Stalybridge ,
Stalybridge Town Team is the official group dedicated to making the best of our Town. Comprising of local business and shop owners, a faith leader, members of the local community, the Town manager, TMBC representatives, our local MP and members of the District Assembly. The group is steered by its members for the local town and community and is NOT council funded. Our local Town Team is part of a wider government initiative designed to get the small Towns of the UK back on their feet via local "on the ground" involvement and various funding opportunities. In the past twelve months the Stalybridge Town Team has formed and developed into a successful monthly forum that is beginning to get things done! Some of our achievements so far: FARMERS MARKET - We've grown the market from 6 stalls to over 40 stalls with a selection of activities for children. Providing a fresh, wholesome shopping opportunity. IN THE FUTURE: We want to use more locations around the Town - Melbourne Street, Rififi Car Park, Old Town Hall, and grow in to a farmers market to rival some of the best in the North West. To maybe hold the event on different days - Fri & Sat to encourage customers to use the High Street as well. WE NEED YOU: To visit the market for a wide range of fresh, local fruit, veg, meat, pies, cakes, deli snacks and more! Tell your friends and family that its a great day out. OPEN THE CIVIC HALL & ARMENTIERES SQ - We organised Stalybridge's first 2 day Christmas Market in December 2012 to great acclaim! Boasting a wide range of produce and gift stalls just in time for Christmas. IN THE FUTURE: We're in the process of organising a programme of new and existing events to take place in and around the Civic Hall in the heart of Town including a Food Festival, Stalybridge Carnival, Horticultural Show, Canal Festival, Music Festival, Motorcycle Exhibition and much more! WE NEED YOU: To support local events by bringing your family and friends along and join the local community coming together to celebrate in the town. SANTA CLAUS VISIT - As part of the Town Team the Stalybridge Business Forum organised for Santa to return to Stalybridge and turn on the Christmas lights. IN THE FUTURE: We'll hold something similar every year to bring back that Christmas festivity to the Town. WE NEED YOU: To support events like this, bring your friends and family and join in the fun of a local community coming together at a special family time. CLEAN UP DAYS - We've organised over 40 volunteers at 2 events during the year - litter picking, cleaning and highlighting the tired areas around the town. This provides support to the council day to day cleaning as some areas attract a larger than normal amount of hand dropped and fly tipped litter. IN THE FUTURE: We plan regular clean up day programme to monitor and maintain our town as an attractive place to live, work and visit. WE NEED YOU: To tell others about the clean up days, come along and help with the clean ups and be vigilant about litter in general! CASABLANCA'S GYM - We've added extra impetuous to the long ongoing redevelopment process - the area had now been re-boarded adn demolition is now scheduled. IN THE FUTURE: We've organised a design competition with New Charter that is under way for a select group of UK architects to provide designs to reinvigorate the immediate area. We will continue to be integral in the whole process. WE NEED YOU: To tell others about the progress we've made so far and that this is an issue that will be resolved as soon as it can be. MEDICAL CENTRE (STAMFORD ST) - We've moved the process forward to the demolition of the medical centre and continue to work with its owners to redevelop the site for good use. IN THE FUTURE: Any planning will be encouraged to maintain maximum potential is achieved for the use of the land. WE NEED YOU: To tell others about the progress we've made so far and that this is another issue that will be resolved as soon as we can. METTRICK'S BUTCHERS - We've worked with John Mettrick in order to provide a good local butchers in the Town in the form of a "pop up" shop. IN THE FUTURE: We'll will encourage and provide support to John and other new business to the town to maintain as prosperous a High Street as possible. WE NEED YOU: To use the new Butchers and the High Street - the meat is non comparable to super market bought! And tell your friends and family how good it tastes and what great value for money it is. STALYBRIDGE TOWN WEBSITE & FACEBOOK PAGE - As part of the Town Team the Stalybridge Business Forum have created a useful and informative website detailing all you need to know about shopping in the town with regular updates on offers and events on the sister Facebook and Twitter pages. IN THE FUTURE: These sites will be updated and regularly infused with local shopping, business and visitor information. WE NEED YOU: To tell your friends and family about then and use them to help with your day to day life in Stalybridge. PARKING AND TRAFFIC FLOW - We've worked with the traffic/highways department to open up as many parking spaces as possible with less restriction. And have encouraged the flow of traffic through the Town via Armentieres Square. We also arranged for Free parking days in December 2012. IN THE FUTURE: We hope to continue to monitor major parking and traffic flow issues around that town that inhibit regular customers and new business from using the town. WE NEED YOU: To take advantage of the new free/relaxed parking restriction in some areas when appropriate and encourage you to use the shops in our Town centre. SHOP LOCAL CAMPAIGN - As part of the team the Stalybridge Business Forum organised a shop local competition to encourage the residents of the town to shop there too. The prize was up to £350 to spend in a local shop. WE NEED YOU: To shop in the town centre, you'll be surprised at the choice! The more shoppers we encourage the more new and exciting shops will move into the centre and the are will become more prosperous. Its the circle of life! There are many more exciting projects in the pipeline, with meetings every month and regular updates to you all. We Thank You for your support over the past twelve months and look forward with you to a regenerated and exciting future for Stalybridge.
