Holywood Arches Business Association

Holywood Arches Business Association

Holywood Arches, Belfast ,
Holywood Arches and the surrounding area has changed dramatically in the last 50 years. Whilst many people still live at ‘the Arches’ or close by, there is much less of a sense of cohesion and identity than, for example, nearby areas such as Ballyhackamore and Belmont. Until more recent years the density of Holywood arches (in terms of residential use) has changed little. The area has been predominantly based around commerce and manufacturing with a strong identity emerging from the association with the mills and the shipyard. There was a sense of neighbourhood and ‘village’ or ‘town’ where local shops and facilities served the large workforce who also lived there.
