Rotary Club of Dumbarton

Rotary Club of Dumbarton

Abbotsford Hotel, Stirling Road, Dumbarton ,
The Rotary Club of Dumbarton, which marked the 50th anniversary of our charter in 2011, is part of a huge network of clubs all over the world. Our parent organisation, Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI), has more that 55,000 members in 1855 clubs and is an integral part of Rotary International, the world’s first service organisation. The club, which meets weekly currently in the Abbotsford Hotel, Dumbarton, brings together people of all backgrounds to work together for the good of the local community and causes overseas. Members enjoy business as well as social networking opportunities, while giving something back to those less fortunate. Rotary runs countless humanitarian projects locally, nationally and internationally, and also partners with many charities worldwide. Members organise community projects tackling issues such as violence, drug abuse, health, hunger, the environment and illiteracy. They work for and with young people with similar clubs for younger members. The Dumbarton club has played a major part in Rotary’s international drive to wipe out polio from the world. Since 1985, its efforts have helped reduce the number of reported cases from 350,000 a year to just 1000 and protected two billion children from the disease. In local communities, each club raises thousands of pounds for projects and charities. Members also volunteer their time, supervising community events, promoting the achievements of young people, coordinating educational programmes and supporting local businesses. Feel free to join us!

The Pulse

The Pulse

Room G10, Leven Vally Enterprise Centre,Castlehill Road, Dumbarton ,
The Pulse is a multi-agency initiative, run by West Dunbartonshire Council's Early Intervention Team, providing diversionary activities for young people aged 12 - 18 years across West Dunbartonshire, focusing on identified anti-social behaviour hotspots. The activities are open to all young people and provide a positive atmosphere in which young people are safer than they would be 'hanging about' on the street, where they may become a victim of crime or anti-social behaviour themselves. The Early Intervention Team also work with primary and secondary schools to get across messages about positive behaviour and being a responsible citizen. Pulse activities take place across West Dunbartonshire, as part of multi-agency action plans to provide positive and diversionary activities to young people. To find out what's on and when, keep an eye on the Pulse website www.thepulsewdc.co.uk. If you'd like more information, give the Early Intervention Team a call on 01389 772 201 or email early.intervention@west-dunbarton.gov.uk. The activities are organised to take place at times when anti-social behaviour may be a problem. This means that many of the activities take place on a Friday but some areas have activities on other evenings too. A wide range of activities is offered, which can include: Skating, BMX, Skate Boarding, Parkour, Urban Arts Workshops, Dance, Drama Workshops, Multi Sports, Football Leagues, Live Gigs, Music Development Workshops, Fitness Sessions, Arts and Crafts, Face Painting, Nail Bar, Board and Electronic Games, Wii and Playstation The Early Intervention Team continues to source additional funding in order to maintain the high standard and level of demand for activities in conjunction with relevant partners. The team continues to think outside the box in order to deliver activities to young people within West Dunbartonshire. Someone of these activities include music gigs for local young bands and evening Sports Leagues. The Pulse activities are mostly free to drop in and take part in the varied activities. There are certain restrictions due to maximum numbers allowed in venues but if you come early enough you should gain access. The Pulse operates two voucher schemes, Unit 23 Skatepark and activities with West Dunbartonshire Council Leisure Services. Both aid in the monitoring of youth participation and costs. The vouchers are accessed through local Police stations, Streetlinks, Y Sort It and Community Learning and Development (CL&D). (It should be noted that the voucher scheme will soon be replaced by the Young Scot card) Follow us on Twitter @thepulsewdc The Pulse Room G10, Leven Vally Enterprise Centre, Castlehill Road, Dumbarton, G82 5BN
