Coalville Detachment
The Army Cadet Force, often called the ACF, is a national voluntary youth movement with a unique mix of background, activities and opportunities. Founded in 1860 with the aim of keeping street children out of trouble, the movement has grown to encompass adventurous, community and military activities.
We welcome boys and girls from 12 (and in year 8 at school) to 18 years old and our aim is to inspire you to achieve success in life with a spirit of service to your local community, the Queen and their country. We also try to develop the qualities required of a good citizen in an inclusive, multicultural society.
To do this we have a three-point strategy:
Leadership: We want to secure the best possible quality of leadership at all levels - as it is on the energy and commitment of our youth leaders that everything else depends. View our key members of staff
Activities: We are evolving what we do to make sure we deliver suitable, popular and relevant activities without losing what makes us special.
Communication: We need to show ourselves as we really are to the outside world, in order to publicise all the opportunities we offer - for our leaders as well as our young people.
Although independent, we receive substantial support from the Government. Not surprisingly, our main backing comes through the Ministry of Defence and the Army. We are also supported by the departments of Education and Home Affairs; through the new national bodies and by a broad spectrum of organisations such as St John and Duke of Edinburgh's Award and thousands of individual, corporate and charitable supporters, sponsors and donors.
We have over 40 Detachments located around our Counties, each wearing the cap badge of a local military unit. You will parade at your Detachment weekly, and get the chance to go on weekend exercises, as well as Annual Camp each Summer. Cadets train in military skills, gaining 'Star' passes, and enjoying the opportunity for promotion along the way.
And in addition to this, we take you on adventurous training expeditions - canoeing, sailing, abseiling and much more, as well as Community projects and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
There is even the chance to travel the world - each year cadets travel to Canada on an exchange programme - we will try and help you get the most out of life.
And all this is done whilst you are under the care of Officers and Adult Instructors who are highly trained and skilled in their roles.
