The Rother Community Choir was formed in January 2010 and has already raised around £1000 for local charities. The ‘brainchild’ of Sally Vennard, a Rother District Council employee who was inspired by the BBC2 series featuring conductor Gareth Malone on a mission to get the nation singing, this choir was created for the Council’s employees to join. It very quickly grew, rehearsing away from the workplace and enticing new members that have no links with the Rother DC.
So far we have held three Christmas Concerts in aid of Battle and Villages Lions Club, sung for local organisations such as the WI and Rother Children’s Centres and even performed at a wedding! Conducted and directed by Adam Hepkin (Feb 2013 onwards) and accompanied by John Cattaway, the choir, currently with around 30 members, rehearses every Tuesday evening, 7.30-9.30pm, at Bexhill High School, Gunters Lane, Bexhill, TN39 4BY. From songs of the musicals, to three-part choral pieces and from well-loved Abba and Beatles to classic ballads, the Rother Community Choir has a wide variety of numbers under its belt!
