A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US
4th Frodsham (Overton) Scout Group was formed in 1978 in the Five Crosses Infant School building in Overton, Frodsham, and we celebrated our first 30 years in July 2008.
In September 2009, our building was modernized and a large extension was opened. This has improved significantly the quality of our accommodation with a large new hall, new kitchen, meeting room & plenty of store rooms, and has broadened the range of activities we can offer.
Scouting is open to both boys and girls and we currently are over-subscribed. We have three sections: Beaver Scouts (usually for children aged six to eight), Cub Scouts (eight to ten-and-a-half) and Scouts (ten-and-a-half to fourteen); each with a team of leaders consisting of a section leader, several assistants and parent helpers. A Scout group is headed by a Group Scout Leader and supported by a team of parent helpers and an Executive Committee.
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. "Participation" rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges. Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents.
Scouting also provides opportunities to explore values and personal attitudes. It is a great way to meet people and socialise outside of school. Most importantly Scouting is about having fun and activities are tailored to meet the needs of the young people involved.
