Create Arts & Music Cumnock

Create Arts & Music Cumnock

Cumnock Town Hall, Glaisnock Street, Cumnock ,
Create is a Voluntary Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Scottish Charity. The company is managed by a Board of 10 directors. The need for a facility for the Arts within the Cumnock & Doon Valley Area of East Ayrshire Council was the driving force behind the formation of the group in 2003. As a way of raising awareness and to help raise funds for the commissioning of a feasibility study, Create organised Cumnock Music & Arts Festival which is now established as one of the major events in the area attracting bands and festival goers from far and wide. We also included a Fun Day for the family in the Festival each year with a view to re - instating Cumnock Carnival and in 2010 the move was made back to Woodroad Park and the reincarnation of the Carnival took place and proved to be a very successful event. Local Groups within the area is starved of suitable venues to rehearse and perform or display there works. There is also a need for a duplex cinema in this area showing the latest films. To enjoy a night at the theatre or cinema or the use of rehearsal studio areas, individuals and families in this area have to undertake a round trip of up to 60 miles. This makes a trip quite a daunting prospect for most people and also a costly venture. Although such a facility anywhere in the C & DV area would be acceptable, Cumnock, being situated in the centre of the area would be the ideal choice for the Centre to be situated. The Centre would be the hub of recreation and leisure also a meeting place where the local community, groups and individuals, young and old would socialise and integrate. Such a complex would provide an area for training and education in arts and crafts as well as drama, music, and dance as well as technical and production disciplines of theatre, community radio, recording and media.
